NYACK, N.Y. (PIX11) – A tractor-trailer crashed into an overpass on I-87 going southbound at exit 10 in Nyack, shutting down multiple lanes of traffic, officials said.
An over-height tractor-trailer transporting large pipes struck the South Broadway overpass on southbound I-87 around 6:45 a.m., according to New York State Police.
Two southbound lanes on I-87 remained closed, as of 3:15 p.m., while two other lanes were open to traffic, according to the New York State Thruway Authority. The I-87 southbound entrance ramp from exit 10 has also reopened.
The lanes will remain closed for temporary repair work, which continued Thursday afternoon. The crash badly damaged two of the bridge’s eight girders, authorities said.
The South Broadway bridge has also been closed to traffic and will undergo a full inspection, authorities said.
There is a 10-mile delay going southbound to get to the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Getting to the George Washington Bridge from the area will take at least 40 to 45 minutes.
