Boskalis adds to offshore energy fleet

May 30, 2023May 30, 2023

Dutch offshore contractor Boskalis has expanded its offshore energy fleet with the acquisition of the 2009-built Apache II pipe-laying vessel from TechnipFMC’s UK arm.

The pipe-layer, to be renamed the Boka Ocean, is currently in the Port of Rotterdam being prepared for the modification to a cable-laying vessel. No financial details have been disclosed.

According to Boskalis, it is a sister vessel of the Boka Northern Ocean and Boka Southern Ocean, which the company acquired in the past two years.

In 2021, Oceanteam and Bourbon sold its CSV Southern Ocean, now Boka Southern Ocean, to Boskalis. No financial details were revealed but, according to VesselsValue, the ship was worth $17.28m at the time.

The following year, Boskalis acquired the 2012-built CSV North Ocean 105, now Boka North Ocean, from McDermott for $80m.

All three sister vessels have initially been built as pipe layers and then converted into different types of vessels. The first two acquired vessels have been modified into construction support vessels.
