McDONALD COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 5 a.m. Thursday about reports near Goodman, Mo. along I-49 of a serious crash involving two tractor-trailers alerted McDonald County E-911.

McDonald County Deputies and Goodman Fire responded to I-49 northbound near 17 mm.

On scene we learn both tractor-trailers overturned, one swerved to avoid the other, but they never touched one another.

Tpr Martin of Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker tractor trailer #1 overturned on the right side of the road, alone. It was on its side covering the driving lane — the bottom has no lights. So it was completely dark.

Tractor-trailer #1 was hauling retail items that were nonperishable. The trailer box remained intact and did not break open.

Tractor-trailer #2 came upon the overturned #1 blocking the lane and swerved, missing it, and then overturned into the median to the left. It was hauling 35,000 lbs dry dog food. The trailer did not break open.

One driver was transported to a Joplin hospital.

Ray’s Towing, M&M Wrecker and Schrader’s Towing set the crashed vehicles upright and removed debris.

Traffic was disrupted for about 5 hours.
