The Colorado Department of Transportation will host its annual Statewide Truck Roadeo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds, and for the first time CDOT is inviting the public to come and watch.

According to the agency, CDOT hosts regional Truck Roadeos in the spring and summer each year, allowing maintenance employees to compete against each other by taking a written exam, performing a pre-trip vehicle inspection and then testing their skills on the tandem, motor grader, loader and skidsteer.

The first-place and second-place winners from each region will then move on to the annual State Truck Roadeo to compete against all the winners from CDOT around the state.

For the first time, CDOT is opening up its statewide Truck Roadeo to the public this year. CDOT’s Human Resources team will also have a table at the event where attendees can learn more about CDOT’s maintenance and operations job openings.

Members of the public also will have the opportunity to get inside some of CDOT’s heavy equipment and watch some of CDOT’s reigning champs navigate challenging obstacles and further prepare for another winter season.
